Farmington makes change for penny shortage

The Select Board approved a policy to round town transactions up to the next nickel when pennies are no longer available.

The town has $215,000 committed and will seek $38,250 more to build the long-planned facility.

The Select Board considers whether the town should work with a company seeking to enroll local residents in a Penobscot-area solar project.

The $16.58 million budget would an increase of 4.65% , with rising school, county and fixed assessment costs driving much of it.

A budget to switch from a calendar to a July-to-June fiscal year was approved at the annual town meeting
