ATV crash kills teen
WEST PARIS - Students and staff at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris were coping Monday with the death of 15-year-old Thomas Boyd, who died Saturday evening of injuries from an ATV crash on Estes Road.

Peggy Poskus, secretary of the Bear Pond Improvement Association, said the Bear Pond dam will open Wednesday, Sept. 13, for repairs from Sept. 30 to Oct. 1. The work will include replacing the gate with Teflon-painted steel meant to last 30 years. The cost of the project is approximately $10,000. The Lee and Marjorie Restoration fund begun in 2004 will be used, but contributions are also being accepted.

Area jails differ in handling suspects
Overcrowding problems have made it tougher for some county jails to house maximum security inmates.

Skatepark issues prompt closures
PARIS - Police closed the skate park on Charles Street early last Friday after two girls began fighting, and opened it late another day last week after finding trash strewn inside the park.

Fire damages house
WEST PARIS - A fire caused about $10,000 in damage to a two-story home here about 11 a.m. Monday. No one was injured.

Bids being accepted for sand-salt shed
HARTFORD - John Cleveland informed selectmen Thursday night that bids to build a domed 2,500- and 3,500-cubic-yard sand and salt shed are being sought.
