1928 – 2003

PORTLAND – Cecil R. Soper, 75, died Wednesday, April 23, at Maine Medical Center.

Born in Auburn, March 18, 1928, a son of Clarence D. and Evelyn Stewart Soper, he attended Auburn and Portland schools, graduating from Deering High School.

Mr. Soper had worked for Fuller’s Inc. for over 30 years. He then worked for Varney’s Automotive Supply and Motor Supply, which later became Are-Jay’s Automotive. He was then employed at Precision Millwork.

He was a member of the Portland Lodge of Elks and a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Mr. Soper enjoyed spending time with his family and especially time with family at the family home, better known as “Belsamique,” during the summer on Long Island.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Joan C. Murphy Soper; three sons, Jeffrey M. Soper and his wife, Leanne of Windham, William M. Soper and his wife, Beth of Gorham and David A. Soper and his wife, Judy of Portland; one daughter, Gail A. Boivin and her husband, Michael of Portland; one sister, Beverly Down and her husband, Gordon of Lake Wales, Fla., and Standish; seven grandchildren, Timothy Soper, Jason Soper, Danielle Soper, Kristin Soper, Travis Soper, Martin Soper and Ian Soper; and one great-grandchild, Noah Soper.
