1908 – 2003

LEWISTON – Kendrick J. Chapman, 94, a resident of Schooner Estates, 200 Stetson Road, Auburn, died Tuesday afternoon, April 22, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.

Born in Damariscotta, Nov. 26, 1908, the son of Joseph F. and Linda Winslow Chapman, he graduated from Lincoln Academy with the Class of 1925 and from the Maine School of Commerce in 1926.

He had been employed as general manager of Carmen-Thompson in Lewiston from 1926 until 1973, when he retired. During World War II he took a couple of years off to serve as cost accountant at Sample’s Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor.

He was a member and past master of Tranquil Lodge 29, AF & AM of Auburn and a member and past presiding officer of several York Rite Bodies. He was a past grand commander of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Maine and was a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of the Androscoggin. He was a past thrice potent master of Lewiston Lodge of Perfection and a 33rd degree member of the Supreme Council. He was a member of the Auburn Masonic Trustees for 40 years and served as its treasurer for 35 years. He was a member of the board of trustees of the Auburn Home for Aged Women and had been its treasurer and investment officer since 1961. He was a member of the High Street Congregational Church.

In 1933 he married Louise Roberts, who passed away in 1986. They had one son, Neal and a grandson, Nathaniel, both of Minneapolis, Minn.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth whom he married in 1987 of Auburn; two stepsons, Thomas Ray and his wife, Constance of Auburn and their son, Steven and daughter, Susan, Daniel Ray and his wife, Harriet of Eustis, Fla. and their son, Christopher; one brother, David Chapman and his wife, Dorothy of Damariscotta; a sister-in-law, Patricia of Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Walter and James and one sister, Bernice.
