JAY – Sarah Whitfield executed two superb double plays in late innings to protect a Wiscasset 4-0 victory over Jay in MVC girls’ softball action Thursday.

The game remained a pitcher’s duel through the first five innings, but the Tiger (4-3) defense tired in the sixth to allow three unearned runs on as many errors. Lyn Tardiff picked up the pitching victory for Wiscasset.

Emily Bennett tried to spark things for the Tigers in the bottom of the sixth with a double. However, the Redskin (4-1) shortstop converted a bases loaded double play to dash Jay’s hopes in the sixth, while making a repeat performance with two base runners in the final frame.

Thornton 9, Mountain Valley 5

SACO – Emma Binnie netted three goals to pace Thornton to a 9-5 win over Mountain Valley in a WMC lacrosse matchup Thursday. Ashley Peterson chipped in for Thornton (5-1) with two goals, while Melissa Gagnon, Stephanie Hardif, Christina Desjardins and Alison Donovan all tallied single goals to complete the scoring.
