1962-2003

LEWISTON – George J. Messenger, 40, of 198 Park St., Lewiston, went home to the Lord on Sunday, May 11, at his residence, surrounded by his family and following a long battle with cancer. Born in Hartford, Conn., on Nov. 21, 1962, he was the son of Alfred W. Sr. and Geraldine Correia Messenger.

Educated locally, he was employed as a painter for many years, and also worked as a machinist and CNC machine operator. Always good with his hands, he enjoyed woodworking, building models, and working on cars. He also loved to fish, and enjoyed music and bargain hunting at garage sales and flea markets.

Survivors include his mother, Geraldine Chartrand of Lewiston, a stepson, Kenneth and wife Alicia Griffin of Gray, a stepdaughter, Elizabeth, and husband Dan Bragdon of Gray, two brothers, Alfred W. Jr. and wife Victoria of New Britain, Conn., and Kevin of Malone, N.Y., a sister, Linda Hairston of Lewiston, two step-grandchildren, Emma Griffin and Joshua Bragdon, an uncle, Clayton and wife Irene Patrick of New Sweden, two aunts, Mary O’Connor of Miami, Fla., and Grace Francis of California, a niece, several nephews, and his special buddy, grand-nephew Zachariah Messenger. He was predeceased by his father and a brother, Kenny.
