1917 – 2003

WATERVILLE – Evelyn C. Dustin, 85, of Oakland, died Sunday May 18, at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home following a long illness.

She was born Rumford Aug. 31, 1917, the daughter of John and Elmira (Cormier) Dustin. She was educated in Rumford public schools, moving to Oakland in 1933 and graduated from Williams High School Class of 1935.

Immediately following graduation she was employed by Mosher Chevrolet and attended Thomas Business School at night. She was later employed by Emery Brown Department Store as a bookkeeper.

She went to work for New England Telephone Co. (now Verizon) and retired after 35 years of service. She was an assistant Girl Scout leader in Oakland during the 1940’s.

She was formerly a member of St. Theresa’s Guild, the Oakland Garden Club, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Her enjoyment was all types of hand work; hooking rugs, crocheting, knitting, tatting and upholstering.

Surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Ahearn of Oakland and Patricia Hood and husband Richard of Griffin, Ga.; a brother, John Dustin of Oakland; three nieces, Patricia Cunningham and husband Bruce of East Winthrop, Carol Poulin and husband Theodore of Merrimack, N.H., Terri Mulliken of Milton, Mass.; three nephews, Sonny Dustin of Pennsylvania, Michael Dustin of Vassalboro, and Richard Dustin of Benton; an aunt, Leah C. McCleary of Rumford; several cousins in Rumford and Farmington; and several grandnieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; and a sister, Irene D. Desmond.
