Why the Sun Journal chooses to publish the views of an “unreconstructed rebel” on a regular basis is beyond me. R. Cort Kirkwood defends states’ rights, glorifies the South’s attempt to destroy the Union and attacks Abraham Lincoln as a tyrant.
In his latest column, he reveres Robert E. Lee as a saint and is contemptuous of Abraham Lincoln (May 20). If Kirkwood had confined himself to praising Lee, I would have no objections. I am just sick of his anti-U.S. and pro-Confederate viewpoints.
A little research will provide anyone with access to the speeches of Jefferson Davis, who articulated the Confederate point of view quite well.
The Sun Journal surely can find someone to express a conservative perspective who doesn’t wax nostalgic over the Confederate attempt to destroy the Union and extend slavery.
