Mexico selectmen meet Wednesday

MEXICO — Selectmen will consider two parking issues, set a Planning Board meeting for a new business development and meet in two closed sessions when they convene on Wednesday.

The regular twice-monthly meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the town office.

A public hearing will kick off the meeting on time limits for parking in the downtown area. Selectmen want to know residents’ opinions about limiting parking to one hour on Main Street between Holman and Riverside Avenues.

They also will discuss possible changes to the parking lot located at the rear of the town office. Several people have complained about some of the confusion surrounding the designated parking spaces.

A second public hearing will be held for an amusement permit requested by Clarence Tompkins, new owner of Tommy Guns Pit Stop, the business previously known as Shooter’s on Route 17.

A Planning Board meeting will be set for June 19 to take up a site plan for a proposed new mini-mall scheduled for construction in the downtown area.

A Viewer’s Choice video rental store will anchor a three-unit retail business outlet.

The board will meet in two closed sessions to discuss an alternative job proposal by the town manager and to discuss union contracts for the police and highway departments.
