Bicentennial
INDUSTRY – The town of Industry bicentennial celebration will be Friday, June 20.
“We are going to be 200 years old, 1803-2003,” said Historical Society President Bob Burton.
In the afternoon, the Farmington Post Office will be at Allens Mills Town Hall with a pictorial collection. This work was created by the society’s historian and artist Helen Foster. A mill was selected for the postmark because sawmills have always played a large part in the town’s life, and the first U.S. sawmill was built in Maine in 1683.
A supper will take place at 5 p.m. at the Allens Mills Town Hall along with an opening observance by the Historical Society. At 7 p.m, there will be an opening observance at West Mills. “West Mills was the first village of Industry,” Burton points out. “And I’ve got family that go back here to day one. I love the town!”
Historical Society Bicentennial books will be available for the celebration at $16 each. One hundred of the 300 books available have been sold. For more information call Bob Burton 778-4974.
