1947 – 2003

CHESTERVILLE – Elwood Staples Harris, 55, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 15, after a long battle with Kidney disease at his home in Chesterville surrounded by family and friends.

He was born in New Sharon, on Aug. 27, 1947, a son of the late Clinton Roy and Flora Ethel (Deane) Harris. On July 3, 1964 he married the former Rolene J. Knight in New Sharon.

He was employed by Forster Manufacturing Co.; Decoster’s; Kroy Tanning and International Paper Co. He was a “Jack of All Trades.” He coached the Chesterville Cubs for 25 years; served on the Chesterville Fire Department for 22 years; coached Chesterville Challengers, Men’s Softball League for two years; loved playing horseshoes; camping and watching his children and grandchildren play sports; but most of all he loved to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife of almost 39 years, Mr. Harris is survived by his children, Jean Furbush and her husband Aaron of Smithfield, Jeff Harris and his wife LouAnn of Chesterville, Timothy Harris and his wife Elizabeth of Chesterville, James Harris and his wife Linda of Chesterville, Bobbie Jo Dawes and her husband Randy of Jay, Steve Harris and his wife Lori of Chesterville; 18 grandchildren, Jason, Alicia, Kevin, Kayla, Jeff, Chadd, Courtney, Ben, Steve, Amanda, Josh, Jeremy, Alan, Heather, Marissa, John, Brandi and Brian; five sisters, Jessie Dill of New Sharon, Eda Wilson of Woodruff, SC, Anna Churchill of Madison, Rose Mary Eller of New Sharon, Nellie Weiss of Unity; three brothers, Eugene Harris of Farmington, John Harris of Cedar Springs, MI, Joseph Harris of Chesterville; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Myra Harris of New Sharon; and a brother, Deane Harris of Warrington, Fla.
