LIVERMORE – Applications for the $1,000 Pollard Scholarship are available at the town office. They must be returned by July 29.

Each year the scholarship is presented by the town to a Livermore resident pursuing either an academic or trade education program. The tradition begin in 1980 following the opening of a box containing papers showing that the late Augustus Pollard had established a scholarship fund. The funds were invested with instructions that the interest be used each year to help a Livermore resident in pursuit of higher education.

To be eligible, an applicant must: provide a statement as to why he or she wants the scholarship; prove that they have been a Livermore resident for at least five years and provide proof that they have successfully completed one unit at the school of their choice (transcript or statement from their advisor).

A committee consisting of the five selectpersons, a member of the SAD 36 Board of Directors and a citizen-at-large will screen the applicants. A random drawing for the winner will follow. The scholarship drawing will be held during the annual Pollard Scholarship Committee meeting on Aug. 4.

In order to be fair to all applicants, prior scholarship recipients must wait a year after winning before reapplying.
