Both women were trapped in their vehicles before being extricated
JAY – Two people were injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles early Friday on East Jay Road.
A vehicle operated by Janet Benedetto, 50, of Jay was traveling eastbound around 1:20 a.m. when it drifted into the path of a vehicle operated by 18-year-old Roxanne Butler, according to Jay police officer Michael Pike.
Both women were trapped in their vehicles before being extricated by members of the Jay Fire Department.
Butler was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington where she was treated for a “possible broken ankle” and “various bumps and bruises” and later released, Pike stated in a press release.
Benedetto was also transported to FMH where she was scheduled to undergo surgery on a possible fractured heel late Friday, Pike stated.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Blood tests were conducted at the hospital and sent to a laboratory for analysis, Pike stated.
Both vehicles were totaled in the collision.
