NORWAY – Marjy Sessions of Stone-Smart Unit 82 of the American Legion received the Auxiliary Member of the Year Award at the recent convention of the Department of Maine American Legion Auxiliary. She was nominated by President Joyce Clifford for all the work she does for the unit, veterans and community. Sessions lives in Norway with her husband, Robert.
Society exhibit
BETHEL – A new exhibit, “Middle Ground: Exploring the Need for Wood and Woods in Today’s Society,” at the O’Neil Robinson House of the Bethel Historical Society will open officially Friday, July 4, at the Community Picnic. The exhibit is free and open to anyone interested in learning about the concerns of those living and working in a forested environment in transition. Visitors are invited to share their opinions on how best to achieve a balance between the desire for wood and woods.
Lay speaker
SUMNER – Marilyn Hammond will be the lay speaker at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, July 6, at the West Sumner Universalist Church.
Library speaker
NORWAY – Terrilyn Simpson of Augusta, founder and editor of the Maine-based newspaper, Common Sense Independent, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Norway Memorial Library on Main Street.
She will speak on her experiences with the Department of Human Services system from the perspective of investigative reporter and will also address the wider issue of investigative journalism.
Christian women
PARIS – Christian Women United will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at the First Congregational Church in South Paris. Luncheon will be served and the speaker will be Frank Jewett of the Advent Christian Church. To make a reservation, call Pearl Anderson at 743-5724.
