PARIS – Garden Pest and Disease Management will be offered in a two-part walk and talk program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at the McLaughlin Foundation Garden and Horticultural Center, 97 Main St.

Plant pest and disease sleuths Clay Kirby and Bruce Watt will present the program. A boxed lunch will be offered as part of the $24 program fee. Pre-registration is required, phone 743-8820.

Benefit dinner

NORWAY – The Oxford County Fair Association will hold a lobster dinner with coleslaw, beans and desserts from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 11, at Beal’s parking lot next to L.F. Pike’s.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from any fair or racetrack member, or at L.F. Pike’s, Western Auto, Maine Discoveries or the revitalization office on Main Street. Proceeds benefit the new racetrack.

Pancake purpose

HARRISON – The Cadet Girl Scout Troop will hold a fund-raising pancake breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at Calvary Community Church. The cost is $6.

The menu will include eggs, bacon, home fries and toast. The Scouts will be also at Harrison’s Old Home Days with a pie-throwing booth.

Proceeds from both events will benefit the Scout’s trip to Washington in April.

OTISFIELD – The East Otisfield Free Baptist Church’s Ladies Circle will hold a summer sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the church on Rayville Road, off Route 121. The sale will include fancywork, baby clothes, stuffed toys, cutlery, gift items, food table, white elephant table, sandwiches and beverages.

Thyme postponed

PARIS – The “Cut Thyme” program scheduled Saturday, July 12, at the McLaughlin Foundation Garden and Horticultural Center has been postponed to a later date this summer.

Tag sale

OXFORD – The Oxford Congregational Church will hold a tag sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the church on King Street. Proceeds will benefit the church’s sponsored child during the summer months.

Watercolors tour

PARIS – The McLaughlin Foundation Garden and Horticultural Center will offer an all-day tour of Kate Furbish’s original botanical watercolors in the special collection of Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Thursday, July 17. A boxed lunch at Harpswell Garden Club’s display garden will follow. Participants will then be lead to the Japanese Iris collections at Eartheart Gardens, Harpswell. A $30 fee includes tours, lunch and transportation to and from the Center at 97 Main St., South Paris. Pre-registration is required. Call 743-8820.

Soccer tryouts

OXFORD – The Oxford County Soccer Club will hold tryouts for the girls travel team for the 2003 fall season. The team will consist of girls entering the middle school this fall. Spots on the team are open to all girls living in Oxford County. Tryouts will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, July 20, at the Gouin Complex in South Paris. Board times

NORWAY – The Norway Paris Solid Waste Inc. Board of Directors have changed its meeting time. Meetings will now be held at 7 p.m. the third Monday of each month beginning with July 21 and proceeding to Aug. 18, and Sept. 15.

Book donations

PARIS – Book donations are welcome for the Paris Public Library’s annual book sale being held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m Saturday, July 26. The sale will be held on the front lawn at the library’s 37 Market Square location. Monies raised will be used to expand and improve the library’s reference collection. Donations can be dropped off during library hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Pee Wee golf

PARIS – The Paris Hill Country Club will again host the Maine Pee Wee Championship Golf Tournament for 2003. Registration is now being conducted for the Aug. 3 event.
