1923 – 2003

FARMINGTON – John J. Warner Jr., 80, formerly of Rumford and Lewiston, died Monday afternoon, July 7, at Sandy River Center for Health Care.

He was born in Tignish, Prince Edward Island, Canada, April 25, 1923, a son of John J. and Helen (Shea) Warner Sr. He was educated in Rumford schools and graduated from Stephens High School.

He was first married to the former Georgina Deraspe who died in 1971. He later married the former Dora Odiorne who also predeceased him. Mr. Warner first worked more than 20 years as a Millwright for Oxford Paper Co. and later spent several years working for Cianbro Corp. and close to five years for Country Kitchen in Lewiston until his retirement.

He was a military veteran having served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the American Legion and a very active member of the V.F.W. While living in Rumford, he was a member of St. Athanasius & St. John’s Church.

He loved children and special family times together and enjoyed Irish music, dancing, singing, reading and horse racing.

He leaves three daughters, Kathleen Gallant and husband Frank of Derry, NH, Barbara Ruffing and husband Kenneth of Rowlett, Texas, and Louise Hiltz and husband Douglas of Wilton; one son, Michael Warner and wife Rhonda of Finksburg, Md.; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Justard of Rumford; two brothers, Thomas of Mexico and Arnold of Rumford; one stepson, Fred Odiorne; and several stepgrandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, James in 2001; and a brother, Wilfred.
