NEWRY – Harley-Davidson motorcycle owners from Maine and 22 other states across the country will rev into town next week for their annual Maine State Rally.

According to Ed Farrell, the rally’s registration coordinator for the Maine Harley Owners Group, 675 bikers had pre-registered to attend the three-day event Thursday through Saturday, July 17-19, at Sunday River Ski Area’s Jordan Grand Resort.

“If it’s a decent weekend, we should have over 200 more register on site,” said Farrell of Augusta.

Farrell explained that it was a coincidence that this year’s Maine HOG rally fell on the 100th anniversary of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

“There are 47-odd state rallies across the country, but this will also be our eighth rally and 20th year anniversary. We choose a different place every year. Last year we were at Sugarloaf. This year we were looking for a resort that’s off the road, so we chose Sunday River,” he added.

Maine’s five chapters of Harley-Davidson motorcycle owners are also sending 150 volunteers to help run the rally.

The itinerary includes plenty of scenic rides through western Maine and the White Mountains of New Hampshire. On Saturday, July 19, 100 Maine Harley bikers will participate in Bethel’s Mollyockett Day Parade, starting at 10:30 a.m.
