1925 – 2003

LEWISTON – Robert E. Asselin, 78, of 45 Goddard Road, Lewiston died Wednesday, July 9, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center following a long illness.

He was born in Lewiston on June 28, 1925, the son of Wilfred and Alice (Berube) Asselin and had been a resident of this community all of his life.

He was employed for many years at the Lewiston Public Works as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard having served as a mechanic with a company 2nd Medium Tank Battalion 20th Armor of Auburn.

He was the widower of Theresa M. Asselin who died on Aug. 31, 1997. Mr. Asselin was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, American Legion Post 153 of Auburn, the ACME Club and the Midtown Club.

He was an avid bowler, loved gardening and especially enjoyed going to Foxwoods.

He is survived by one daughter, Sandra Peterson of Sabattus; one brother, Lucien Asselin and his wife Yolande of Lewiston; two sisters, Rita Roy of Lewiston and Jacqueline Duclos and her husband Normand of Berlin, NH; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, Roland Asselin Dec. 13, 1988.
