FARMINGTON – The Western Mountains Alliance is offering a training program beginning in November for those working on a project to improve the quality of life in Oxford, Franklin, Somerset and Piscataquis counties.

“We call it Lead Western Maine and it is designed to build the capacity of the region’s leaders and their grass root organizations,” said Deb Burd, executive director of the Alliance. “Groups currently engaged in a community development project – working to improve everything from the environment and education, to the health and general well-being of their community – enroll as teams (two or more people) and receive support, training and mentoring for their projects over a period of six months.”

The deadline for applications is Oct. 10. Phone Deb Burd at 778-7274 for an application. For information on cost, scholarships and what graduates have to say about the program, log on to www.westernmountainsalliance.org

Established in 1988, the Western Mountains Alliance strives to improve the quality of life and to strengthen the regional identity of the western mountains regions of Maine.
