The program, titled “The Best Half of Your Life,” will tackle aging with health and humor.

LEWISTON – Growing older will be presented as a time for celebration as a local conference will explore the topic of health and wellness for those enjoying the best half of life on Saturday, Sept. 6, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Registration deadline is Aug. 29.

Sponsored by Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion, Seniors Plus, Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, Lewiston Housing Authority, Auburn Housing Authority, and Catholic Charities Maine, The Best Half of Your Life conference will provide educational sessions related to aging well, with a focus on various topics including health, leisure time and spirituality.

The half-day conference will celebrate the years after 50, and will be a day of wellness in body, mind and spirit.

The Best Half of Your Life will offer a choice of two specific morning workshops for participants. The topics encompass a full range of health and wellness activities. Workshops offered are as follows: Eat Well, Feel Well – Nutrition the Right Way; The Spirited Half of Life; It Depends – Living with Incontinence; Ready, Willing and Able – To Retire or Not; I’d Rather Do It Myself – Safe Home Living; T’ai Chi Ch’uan – Ancient Healing Methods; Broadening Your World – Traveling on a Budget; Have a Ball Remembering It All; Keeping a Sharp Mind In Advancing Age; Gaining Strength While You Sit; The Single Gourmet – Cooking for One; Shake a Leg – Dancing for Partners or Singles.

The conference will culminate with a luncheon and keynote speaker on the topic of staying positive in a negative world. Registered nurse Edward Latham will deliver the address with a humorous style and flair. In 1994, Latham founded his speaking and consulting company called Ed-ucation Unlimited. He has spoken at several nursing care facilities as well as numerous conferences, conventions, graduations and a few funerals.

Registration is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Pre-register by calling 777-8759. Registration fee is $10 and must be completed by Aug. 29 in order to reserve a space at the conference.
