FARMINGTON – The Farmington Recreation Department’s 11th season of the Prep Soccer Program will begin Sept. 7. Registrations will be accepted from Tuesday, Sept. 2, through 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Farmington Community Center on Middle Street.

The program is open to boys and girls in kindergarten or students ages 5 and 6. Last year, this non-competitive format introduced 20 youngters to the sport of soccer in a pressure-free atmosphere. Held at the UMF soccer field, this six-week program will concentrate solely on teaching the elementary skills of soccer. There will be no roster assignments, no playing schedules to follow and no trophies to win. Children will learn about the sport and practice fundamentals through fun games, simple drills and exercises and abbreviated pickup scrimmages.

This fall the program will be under the guidance of Joel Smith, Mount Blue varsity soccer program coach.

Two groups of players will meet each Sunday at either 12:30 p.m. or 2:15 p.m. for practices. Players will be divided alphabetically by the first letter of their last name. The schedule is 12:30 for A through L and 2:15 p.m. for M through Z. Play begins Sept. 7 and continues through Oct. 12 at Prescott Field on Front Street.

The registration fee for prep soccer is $20 and a $5 nonresident fee is charged to those who do not reside in or pay taxes to the town of Farmington. A souvenier prep soccer T-shirt will be provided to each participant.
