After beating Quebec, Lewiston hosts Chicoutimi tonight in Hallowell.

Maxime Robert and Brandon Roach scored two goals each and Alex Picard added three assists as the Lewiston Maineiacs took advantage of 15 power plays and skated away from the Pepsi Colisee in Quebec with an 8-3 win over conference rival Quebec in preseason Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Action Wednesday.

Five of the Maineiacs’ eight goals were scored on the power play in another rough game between the two teams.

Last Friday, the two tussled at Kennebec Ice Arena and racked up 80 total penalty minutes.

On Wednesday, the teams added to their total, running the number of penalty minutes to 106, leading to 15 power play opportunities for Lewiston and 13 for the Remparts. Quebec managed just one goal with the man advantage.

The Remparts started the scoring early when Justin Laverdiere snuck one past starting goalie Matt Davis just 49 seconds into the game. The Maineiacs struck back with two of their own, both off the stick of Brandon Roach and both on the power play, to take the lead 2-1 after the first period. Lewiston never trailed again.

Quebec pulled even at 3-3 with two quick goals in the second, but Lewiston answered with five straight to put the game out of reach.

Next up…

Lewiston plays its final preseason contest on Friday night, again at the Kennebec Ice Arena in Hallowell, against the Chicoutimi Sagueneens.

Chicoutimi is 2-2-2 this preseason with 29 goals for and 26 goals against. In comparison, the Maineiacs have scored 31 goals and have allowed only 21 and boast a 4-1-1 record.

Chicoutimi is coming off of an 8-6 loss to Victoriaville. Both of the Sagueneens’ goaltenders saw action in that game, with Jean-Michel Perron allowing five goals and Alexandre Vincent allowing three.

Pump up the volume

Still trying to fill a couple of last-minute positions, the Maineiacs are now looking for a DJ to work during games at the Central Maine Civic Center.

According to the team’s website, the DJ will be responsible for entertainment prior to and during games. This is different, according to the team, from a rinkside announcer, which is a position the team is also looking to fill.

Parking lot fees

The Central Maine Civic Center will be charging $3 per car to park in the newly paved lot for Maineiacs’ home games this season.

The charge is being collected by the civic center itself, not by the team, and negotiations are underway between the team and the rink to offer special discounts on parking, or even preferred parking, to season ticket holders.
