DIXFIELD – Steve Werder tallied the first of two goals at 36:41 of the first half as Monmouth handed Dirigo a 3-0 setback in the season-opener for both schools.

Werder converted a feed from Andy Belmor, depositing the ball into the upper right corner of the Dirigo goal for the game-winner. Shane Kibbler added an insurance goal at 38:49 of the second half, and Werder added his second goal with eight seconds left in the game to account for the final score.

Kyle Pelletier needed just six saves to record the shutout.

Richmond 4, Greenville 2

GREENVILLE – Zack Brown converted a crossing pass from Eric Christie to lift Richmond past Greenville in the season-opener for both EWC schools Saturday afternoon.

Greg Gibbs added a pair of goals and Christie rounded out the scoring in the victory.

Brandon Lavigine turned back 15 shots to record the win.

The Lakers’ (0-1) goals were scored by Jonah Lizotti.

Oxford Hills 3, Skowhegan 2

SKOWHEGAN- Oxford Hills’ Cote Scoville scored the winning goal late in the second half as the Vikings edged Skowhegan, 3-2, in a boys’ soccer season-opener Saturday.

Scoville also scored early in the first half with a wild scramble in front of the net.

Oxford Hills’ Jessie Strauss netted the other goal of the game off a penalty kick.

For Skowhegan’s effort, Nolan Gagne tied it up early in the second half.

Mt. Abram 2, Lisbon 0

SALEM- With 47 seconds left in the game, Frank Dyer got hold of a corner kick made by Jeff Beal and punched in Mt. Abram’s second goal, giving the Roadrunners 2-0 shutout over Lisbon in boys’ soccer Saturday.

Sam Dyer knocked in Mt. Abram’s first goal on an assist by Nate Manning.
