CARTHAGE – The Carthage Historical Society will view the film, “Jackass Annie,” following a potluck supper Tuesday, Oct. 21, in the school house museum. The supper begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the program. Ken McShane of New Sharon will show his film and tell the story of Messanie Wilkins who set out with $32 in 1955 to travel across the country on her horse, Tarzan, accompanied by her dog. All are welcome.

Youth basketball to hold meeting

WILTON – The Western Maine Youth Basketball League will have its preseason meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Wilton Academy. The league is made up of fifth- and sixth-grade boys and girls teams from towns in the west central part of Maine. Some of the towns included are Wilton, Auburn, Rumford, Strong and Turner. WILTON – The Wilton CareerCenter will host a job fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the center on Route 2. Those who are looking for employment, considering a career change, or who just want to know about the future job market are welcome to attend. The CareerCenter is located in the Cousineau Mall between Athena’s Restaurant and the bowling alley on Route 2 in Wilton. A partial list of the employers who will be there includes: Care and Comfort, Gates Form Fibre, Project Staffing, MBNA, Livebridge, Sugarloaf, SugarLoaf Food Services/Boston Concessions, Wal-Mart, Army, RM Transition Inc., Community Corrections Alternatives, and Sybernet.

Financial training for women offered

FARMINGTON – Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community will offer a five session, Financing Your Future, training from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays, Oct. 22, Nov. 5, Nov. 19, Dec. 3 and Dec. 17. These fun and fact-filled workshops will help participants become more comfortable with money, look at their current financial situation, learn the basics of money management tools and strategies, and plan for their personal financial future. Wilton Rec to hold basketball tryouts

WILTON – The Wilton Recreation Department will hold tryouts for its boys and girls fifth- and sixth-grade travel basketball teams at the Wilton Academy gym. The girls will tryout from 3 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 27 and 29. The boys will tryout from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 29 and 30. Both teams will play in the Western Maine Youth League which plays its games on Sunday afternoons. Anyone with questions about the league or tryouts can contact the rec department at 645-4825.

Benefit dinner

VIENNA – Tickets are now on sale for a benefit dinner and dance to be held for Aaron Neal, 25, who is fighting brain cancer. The evening begins with a social hour at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Le Club Calumet in Augusta. The dance will feature the band, Norm and The Storm.

During the evening a raffle will be held featuring items that area businesses and community members have donated.

Earmuff day

FARMINGTON – The Farmington-Wilton Chamber of Commerce is making plans for this year’s 27th Annual Chester Greenwood Day on Dec. 6. The parade will begin at the Mallett School at 11 a.m. followed by raising the Chester Greenwood flag at the Superior Court building. The chamber will serve cake and chili in the gazebo of Meeting House Park. The Titcomb House will be open that day for viewing of Greenwood memorabilia along with the Festival of Trees at the Granary during the day. The Polar Bear Club will make their annual dip into Clearwater Lake around 3 p.m. Phone the chamber office at 778-4215 if you wish to participate in the parade.
