NEW GLOUCESTER – The Spurwink Institute will host an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the new offices, 60 Pineland Dr., Lewiston Hall, on the newly renovated Pineland Farms campus, Route 231.

Rotary speaker

LEWISTON – Alden C. Wilson, director of the Maine Arts Commission, will be the speaker at the Thursday, Oct. 23, meeting of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club. Meetings are held at noon at the Ramada Inn. Anyone interested in the topic or in knowing more about Rotary is invited. The cost of the luncheon is $7.

LEWISTON – Classrooms, a day of scrapbooking, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Pettingill School, 409 College St. The cost is $20, including lunch, a gift and hourly prize drawings. Musical review

WINTHROP – The Winthrop Area Ministerial Association will present “Songs for Life,” a Winthrop area youth musical review, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Winthrop High School Performing Arts Center.

Students in grades six through 12 will share positive expressions of life through music, directed by Patti English. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students. They can be purchased at the door or at the office of the Winthrop United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. For more information, call 377-8620.

Author to read

LISBON – Local author Mary Callahan will sign and read from her book, “Memoirs of a Baby Stealer: Lessons I’ve Learned as a Foster Mother,” at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Lisbon Falls Community Library.

Her book has been read by each member of the Advisory Council that will oversee the re-organization and unification of the Maine Department of Human Services and the Department of Behavioral and Developmental Services.

She can be seen on Mainewatch as well as Frontline and has had opinion pieces published in nearly all of Maine’s major newspapers.

Copies of her first book, “Fighting for Tony,” will also be available.

LISBON FALLS – The Extension Association in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties will hold its annual meetings at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at the county Extension office, 24 Main St. Officers will be elected to each board.

Bates fair

LEWISTON – Bates College invites the community to join for the annual Graduate and Professional School Fair from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, in the Gray Athletic Building. AUBURN – The Androscoggin Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Androscoggin County Building, third floor, Court Street. Richard S. Kimball will discuss “Pineland Revisited.” The meeting is free and open to the public. It is wheel-chair accessible.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Oct. 14 at the Multi-Purpose Center.

North/South winners in Flight A were: first, Anna Vitiello and Lucille Theriault; second, Marta Clements and Joann Morris; third, Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau. Flight B winners were: first, Marta Clements and Joann Morris; second, Roger Briggs and Lucille Bilodeau.

East/West winners in Flight A were: first, Fred Letourneau and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Mary Leahey and Eleanor Abraham; third, David Lock and Patricia Garcia. Flight B winners were: Maude Abbott and Marilyn Brown.
