LEWISTON – Maine Bureau of Health Director Dora Anne Mills will be the featured speaker at Thursday’s Great Falls Forum at the Lepage Conference Center at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

Mills will speak on the Top 10 Health Issues Faced by Maine People.

Mills frequently gives presentations to a wide variety of audiences. Talks have included: keynote presentation on the future of end of life care in Maine; minority health conference presentation on health disparities in Maine; hazmat conference presentation on weapons of mass destruction preparedness and presentation at the Maine Public Relations Association meeting on effective ways to reach out to youth.

Mills’ writings have appeared in a variety of publications, including newspapers, newsletters, and academic journals. Mills has also received many awards. Among them: State Employee Award, Maine Hospice Council Leadership Award, Maine Development Foundation Champion for Economic Growth, Franklin Memorial Hospital Health Champion, American Heart Association, New England Affiliate Leadership Award, Margaret Sanger Award from Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, American Lung Association of Maine Appreciation and others.

Mills is a native of Maine and was raised in Farmington. She is a graduate of Bowdoin College, University of Vermont College of Medicine, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles Internship and Residency Program, and the Harvard School of Public Health. She practiced medicine in Tanzania, East Africa, Los Angeles and Farmington before becoming director of the Maine Bureau of Health.

The forum is sponsored by the Sun Journal, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Lewiston Public Library and Bates College. It is a monthly public platform encouraging thought-provoking speakers and discussion. Everyone is welcome. There are no dues and no obligations.
