Weather continues to frustrate the city’s road projects.

New Auburn commuters should plan on a doughnut-related detour around the South Bridge this week.

Crews will be digging up Riverside Drive from Broad to 1st streets Monday and Tuesday to install a new water main. Matt Callahan of K&K Excavation said that work is part of a planned Dunkin’ Donuts at the corner of Broad Street and Riverside Drive.

South Bridge traffic will be detoured around 1st Street, Callahan said.

“We’re planning on getting most of it done on Monday and Tuesday, but we might have to finish up on Wednesday,” Callahan said. “Construction projects are like that.”

Auburn City Engineer Steve Ranney said that project is the biggest road project planned in Auburn this week.

“I don’t see anything too disruptive planned at all,” Ranney said.

In Lewiston, weather continues to frustrate the city’s road projects. Public Works Director Dave Jones’ crews are trying to finish paving work on the last nine streets on the city’s list.

Paving is scheduled on Stetson Road between St. Tekakwitha Drive and the dead end, Pineview Street between Stetson Road and Balsam Street, Balsam Street from Pineview Street to the dead end, Michaud Avenue from Main Street to St. Patrick Avenue, Bradley Street from Walnut to Pine streets, part of College Street and on Deer Road.

“We hope to have all the paving completed next week,” Jones said.

Plourde Parkway won’t reopen this weekend because of the cold and rain. Jones said crews hoped to finish relocating the road on Saturday. Friday’s cold wind kept crews from paving, so that work has been pushed back to this week. The road will remain closed until about Tuesday, Jones said.
