Erosion plan

WATERFORD – A meeting on the Hawk Mountain Access Road erosion control plan will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Waterford Town Office. The road is a popular route to the top of scenic Hawk Mountain. Hawk Mountain Road was considered a major pollution problem in the 2001-02 Keoka Lake watershed survey. The road contributes eroding soil to Bog Brook that drains into Keoka Lake. Eroding soil, even from sources as far away from the lake as Hawk Mountain, carries phosphorus. The Hawk Mountain Access Road, because of its severe erosion, is a top priority. The district has drawn up a plan to stop the erosion. The plan will be discussed at the Dec. 9 meeting as well as the role of interested parties. For more information call Jeff Stern, Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District, at 743-5789, ext. 3, or Colin Holmes, Lakes Environmental Association at 647-8580.
