LISBON – The Art Selection Committee for the new kindergarten to sixth grade school announces a competition for artists to design, execute and install artwork for their new school, which consolidates two existing elementary schools and the sixth grade.

All mediums will be considered. The underlying theme of the building has been the coming together of the Lisbon community. Artwork should appeal to all ages and have ongoing meaning to the life of the school and community. The school is situated on the banks of a small river with fields and forest in close proximity. Use of color within the building reflects the calming influence of nature.

Approximately $47,000 is available for the purchase of artwork through Maine’s Percent for Art law, which reserves 1 percent of the construction funds for state-funded building projects to provide artwork for the public areas of the buildings.

All professional artists may apply for consideration. For a prospectus, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Percent for Art Competition, Carlene Iverson, Principal, Marion T. Morse Elementary, 18 School St., Lisbon Falls, ME 04252, 353-3040.
