JAY – Police are investigating thefts of a tow-behind welder and a package.

Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier said a large blue Miller Big 40 welder was reported stolen from the A & V Construction lot off Main Street.

The value of the welder mounted on a trailer was estimated at $2,700, Fournier said.

It was stolen sometime between Sunday evening and Monday, he said.

Earlier this month A & V Construction held an equipment auction and the welder was purchased by an out-of-state contractor, who did not take it then. On Tuesday the contractor came back to pick it up and it was discovered missing, Fournier said.

Police are also looking into a missing package from 17 Lavoie St., an elderly housing complex. The victim reported the missing package valued at about $70 Monday after contacting the Postal Service and discovering it had been delivered, Fournier said.
