DIXFIELD – Selectmen on Monday are expected to finally tackle a special warrant article they’ve tabled continuously since last fall.

At their board meeting at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Ludden Memorial Library community room, they are expected to vote on whether to let town meeting voters decide about accepting a private road as a town way.

In December, three of five selectmen present voted unanimously not to raise a motion calling for a special town meeting to vote on accepting the private Child Hollow Road as a town road.

Board Chairman Hugh Daley said last month that he wouldn’t revisit the issue without a full board, something that hasn’t occurred in several weeks.

Other than the road issue, the real dispute lies with the town’s outdated, confusing and ambiguous Private Road Design and Construction Standards Ordinance.

The three selectmen – Daley, Eugene Skibitsky and Stephen Donahue – who voted no in December, interpreted the ordinance to mean that Child Hollow Road must first be paved before the town could vote to accept it.

Child Hollow Road resident Ronda Palmer and Holt Hill Road resident Robert Child, who built the road to town specifications disagree with that interpretation.

Other Dixfield residents and Selectmen Montell Kennedy and Sandra Buchanan also disagreed, saying Child was fed misinformation on town ordinance road specifications.

Selectmen have scheduled an executive session to discuss a personnel issue at Monday night’s meeting.
