1932 – 2004

POLAND SPRING – Kenneth E. Vining, 71, of Jackson Road died Sunday morning, Feb. 29, at his home. He was born in Auburn on June 26, 1932, the son of Edward L. and Marjorie Newcomb Vining. He was raised by his grandparents Dr. Everett and Ina May Vining. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1951, and served his country as a Seabee in the Navy.

He had been employed as a salesman and mechanic at W.D. Matthews Co. and Yale Nitco, a mechanic at Advanced Auto Sales and as a truck driver for Beacon Sales. He was a member of the American Legion Post 150 in Mechanic Falls, the Poland Gun Club, the Poland Snow Travelers, a C.B. radio club and the Big Bucks Club. He was a former member of United Commercial Travelers and the Mechanic Falls Fish and Game.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and anything with motors; snowmobiles, motorcycles, etc. He also had his lobster license.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Gates Vining of Poland Spring; six children and their spouses, Kenneth Jr. and Lori of Woolwich, Sharon and Dennis Potvin of Poland, Daniel of Poland, Thomas and Rosemarie of Poland, Sheryl and Chris Kimball of Poland and Steven and Heidi of Mechanic Falls; a brother, Ronald and Glennis Vining of South Paris; sisters, Laurel Addison and Jean Marsden both of Auburn; brother, Jeffrey Therriault of Auburn; sister, Mary Perry of Miami, Fla., sister, Madelyn Hendricks of Oxford; brother, Roger and his wife Carol Therriault of Auburn, brother, Rene Lee and Candy Therriault of Minot; stepdaughter, Geraldine Periria of New Bedford, Mass.; mother of his children and close friend, Carolyn Vining of Poland; 14 grandchildren, Heidi, Jonathan, Matthew, Scott, Tyson, Daniel, Joseph, Jacob, Adam, Christopher, David, Brandon, Jessica and Steven Tyler; two great-grandchildren, Kharri and Derrion; and Missy the cat.

He was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Olyvia.
