POLAND – The Rev. Ray Richard of Lewiston has answered a call from the Poland Community Church to become its pastor.

Richard has been in the ministry for the past 30 years. He spent more than 20 years with the Catholic church in Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine. He coordinated a special program for widowed, separated and divorced people and engaged in counseling and guidance in various alcohol rehabilitation programs as well as providing counseling to married couples and families. For more than 15 years Richard served as pastor of churches in Dover-Foxcroft, Sabattus, Auburn and Belfast.

In 1997 he responded to a second vocational call, leaving the Catholic church, marrying and joining the United Church of Christ at the Sixth Street Congregational Church in Auburn. He spent three and a half years as the church’s pastor.

This summer he served as a supply pastor while trying to determine the next step in his Christian ministry. Richard is presenting serving as volunteer ombudsman for two nursing homes in Lewiston and assisting with the local Meals on Wheels program.
