FARMINGTON – The March meeting of Farmington Emblem Club 460 was called to order by President Claudette Merchant. Three women were initiated into the club, bringing the total number of members to 139. Six more women will join the club in April.

Lois Barker and Nancy Chase gave year-end reports for Americanism and community service. Chase said the club will honor their 2004 Citizen of the Year at the May meeting. She also reported that the upcoming Longerberger Basket Beano, sponsored by the Emblem Club, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at the Farmington Elk Lodge. Members volunteered to donate food and work that day. A discussion was also held about the club’s annual ladies night now to take place on May 11 or May 18. The date and place will be decided at the April meeting.

A nominating committee met last month and selected club members to fill offices for 2004-2005. The names were read by Merchant and were voted on by the club. The next installation of officers will take place March 14 at the Elks Lodge.

Kamilla Hall reported that a profit of $274.56 was made from the Monday night beano food table. Jean Corcoran gave a report on scholarships. Literary chairwomen, Connie Reynolds and Diana Oliver, gave their year-end report. The club voted to donate $50 to the Wilton summer storybook camp.

The club voted to donate $50 to Mia Thurlow, a student studying Spanish at Mount Blue High School for her trip to Costa Rica, $185 to sponsor a Mount Blue High School girl to Girl’s State and $200 to sponsor a Mount Blue High School boy to Boy’s State. The club also voted to give $200 to an active club member who has had to spend time at Mass. General Hospital and will be unable to do much for quite a while.

This spring’s Elk and Emblem music show will take place March 19 and May 20 at the Elks Lodge.

Jean Carlow won this month’s 50-50 raffle and Renee Target the mystery gift.
