LEWISTON – Dean Zark VanZandt has announced that the 2004 summer session at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn will start May 17 with open registration set for Monday, April 26.
In addition to a number of general academic and science courses, a course in organizational consulting and a new graduate course in community and economic development will be offered.
A number of graduate courses for teachers will be offered through USM’s College of Education and Human Development and the Professional Development Center.
The include the following: Children’s Literature, Adolescent Literature, Linguistics and Cultural Diversity, ESL: Language Testing and Assessment, Reading Development and Instruction, Problems in Literacy Assessment, Poetry in the Classroom, Coordinating the Career Prep Curriculum, Conflict Resolution and Mediation in Schools, Differentiation of Instruction, Methods of Teaching Math/Special Needs and Technology in Special Education.
Most summer classes will meet twice a week and run for seven weeks. The first session will begin the week of May 17, and the second the week of July 6. A number of other courses, including many of the courses for teachers, are offered on a one-week or variable schedule.
