PHILLIPS – The purchase of a new bucket loader appears to be the item of most interest on Saturday’s annual town meeting warrant.

The session gets started at 1 p.m. March 27 at Phillips Middle School on Route 4.

“I never know what to expect,” said Town Manager Laura Toothaker. “People tend to pay close attention to the smaller donations and proposals,” she said.

There are 52 articles, including one to buy a 2004 Komatsu bucket loader for $83,899.30. It would replace the 1967 Fiat Allis. The town plans to trade it in and raise $18,011.40 for the first payment on the Komatsu.

Another article of interest is an anticipated contract with Franklin Memorial Hospital for ambulance service. It will cost the town $36,732 this year.

Running for the one-year position of town clerk once again is Evelyn Wilbur, while Alan Morse hopes to reclaim his position as a director for SAD 58. The last position to be filled is selectman, which Stephen Charles hopes to retain.

Nominations can be taken from the meeting floor. According to Toothaker, out of the 750 registered voters in the town, only about 100-200 routinely show up for town elections.
