HARTFORD – Selectmen on Thursday night made appointments to several committees, and said more people are needed to fill vacancies.
The Ordinance Committee, Appeals Board, Solid Waste Committee and the Planning Board all have openings.
The board reappointed the entire Comprehensive Planning Board for another year. They are Dave Kraske, Neil Hanley, Dan Maddox, Peg Poskus, Diana Carro, Judy Hamilton and John Convey.
Reappointed to the Cemetery Committee were Bev Murphy, Beulah Brown, Arlene Nason, Sandra Cowett and Rosemary Henderson, and alternate Lianne Bedard.
Chuck Merritt was reappointed constable, Kay Hawkins code enforcement officer, licensed plumbing inspector and health officer. Monica Mailly was reappointed town clerk/tax collector, and Peg (Margaret) Poskus was appointed treasurer with Mailly being deputy treasurer.
Norm St. Pierre was reappointed fire warden. The animal control officer position was tabled until the present ACO could be present.
The board reviewed several animal complaints where the ACO had issued warnings. One concerned dogs killing chickens and another was issued to the owner of two pit bulls that were running loose.
The board adopted a new policy that has the Planning Board processing all shoreland zoning applications.
It also reviewed road complaints. Selectman Chairman Scott Swain said the Road Committee recommended that work should begin on the gravel roads first and they be graded once a month. The road commissioner’s report said he will be doing some tar patching, but he needs laborers. Anyone interested should contact the town office. The pay is $7.50 an hour.
The board met in executive session to interview two applicants for transfer station assistant and voted to hire Charles Hines.
The town constable has arranged with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office for a meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. June 23 at the town hall to discuss organizing a neighborhood crime watch program. All interested residents are asked to attend.
A public potluck supper will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 4, at the town hall.
