Legion meeting

AUBURN – Alden M. Gayton Post 31, American Legion, and Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, June 14, at the post home, 426 Washington St. Finance and membership reports will be heard, and members will discuss the American Legion state convention in Augusta.

Members and eligible veterans are invited to the meeting to meet the new officers. For more information, call Adjutant Lucien P. Marcoux at 782-9820.

Seniors dinner

AUBURN – The New Auburn Seniors will host a chicken pie dinner at noon Wednesday, June 16, at the St. Louis Church basement hall. Cost is $3 and it is for members only, who must purchase tickets by Wednesday, June 9.

A regular meeting was held June 2 with President Virginia Levasseur presiding June birthdays were noted, small gifts given and the “Happy Birthday Song” sung. A Casco Bay cruise will be offered in August if members are interested. More details will be available later.

New members welcomed were Jeannette Lafrance and Jeanne Vaillancourt. Members who will display their crafts on June 16 need to bring in their items at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15. Pot of gold winners were Judy Labrie, Joyce Bickford, Jeanne Vaillancourt and Gloria Bilier. The meeting adjourned and a light lunch was served followed by bingo.

AUBURN – National Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Edward S. Banas of Voluntown, Conn., has announced the appointment to Arthur J. Roy, past state commander of the Department of Maine, VFW, to serve on the Committee on National Security and Foreign Affairs at the 105th national convention in Cincinnati, Ohio, Aug. 14 to 20.

Roy also served this year as national VFW buddy poppy chairman. He is post adjutant of the VFW Post on Minot Avenue, quartermaster of VFW District 9 and chairman of the Veterans Memorial Cemetery Association. Roy resides on Russell Street in Lewiston.

Seniors to install

AUBURN – First Auburn Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Hasty Community Center, Pettengill Park. Tickets will be on sale for the July 21 chicken barbecue luncheon. Officers will be installed and an Italian sandwich lunch will be followed by bingo. Pat Edward will take reservations, payments and menu selections for the June 30 lunch at Julien’s Restaurant.

At the June 2 meeting, Joyce Poole listed trips to Yoken’s July 15, Fairpoint Aug. 2, Carousel Dinner Theater, Aug. 17 and the New Year’s Bash, Dec. 31. Call her at 784-3429 for reservations.

Chairwoman Joan Webb, Nominating Committee, presented the following slate of officers, who was accepted and elected: Betty Hebert, president; Nancy Roy, vice president; Joan Webb, recording secretary; Lucy Cowles, corresponding secretary; Gerry Brushwein, treasurer; Jim Lutz, assistant treasurer; Pat Donohue, chaplain; and Pat Edwards, membership chairwoman.

Kaye DeBurra, Dick Brushwein, Nelson Edwards, George Brainerd and Beverly Lashua were re-elected to the board of directors. Attendance winners were Lorraine Marcous and Leone Ford; pot of gold winners, Clare Haskell, Letha Haggerty and Gerry Timberlake. Following lunch, bingo was played.
