AUBURN – Edward Little High School announces the delegates to Girls and Boys State, an annual program for juniors that trains young people in civic participation through lectures, simulations and group work.

The weeklong Girls State will be held at Husson College in Bangor and Boys State at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine.

Raynor Large and Matt Sonagere will attend Boys State. Large, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Large, has participated in soccer all three years of high school. He has also been a member of the indoor track and tennis teams.

Sonagere is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sonagere. He has participated in band, cross-country, track (indoor and outdoor) and cross country skiing. He will be the captain of the cross country team in the fall.

Raechel Biron, Katie Hughes and Hannah Giasson will attend Girls State. Biron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Gary Biron, has been active in the music and drama programs. She had roles in “Grease,” “West Side Story,” “Macbeth” and “Forum.” She has also been a member of the Chamber Choir and of the Sirens. Morin has served as the clerk-timer for the mock trial team for three years.

Hughes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hughes, is president of the junior class. She was a member of the 2002 Western Maine champion team in field hockey where she will serve as captain next year. Hughes is also a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams as well as the Latin Club.

Giasson, daughter of Kathy Giasson and the late Jim Giasson, has participated in drama all three years. She had the lead in this year’s “Forum.” She previously appeared in productions of “Grease” and “West Side Story.” Giasson has also been active in her class as president one year and treasurer this year. She also serves on the Student Council. She is a member of the Treble Choir and of the Sirens.

All five young people were inducted in the National Honor Society this spring.
