NEWRY – The town has received a report from Augusta that this year’s tree growth reimbursement will see an increase of $12,540 over the $91,361 received in 2003.
Reporting to selectmen at Monday’s meeting, Administrative Assistant Sylvia Grey said this year’s reimbursement, as reported in a letter from the State Bureau of Taxation, totals $103,901.
“This is the most we’ve ever gotten from the state for our tree growth reimbursement,” Grey said. She added that the increase was probably due to changes in state rules regarding tree growth regulations.
Selectmen also discussed the need for scheduling a special town meeting sometime this summer, but did not set a date because they are still waiting for further information in several areas.
Chairman Steve Wight explained that a proposed sign ordinance, an update on the town’s comprehensive plan, and changes in the town’s shoreland zoning maps still need to be clarified.
“I guess we will have to wait before we schedule a special town meeting,” said Wight, “as we need more information on the issues that will be involved.”
Grey said some of the issues still need to go before the Planning Board.
In other business, the board approved a liquor license application for the new Jordon Bowl Golf Course, which is being opened this summer as part of the Sunday River Resorts owned by the American Skiing Co.
The application will now be forwarded to Augusta for final approval.
