LIVERMORE FALLS – Planners approved three new businesses Wednesday night before the topic of a controversial adult book store came up.

Approved, pending receipt of all state and federal permits, was a plan submitted by Elvin Frost Jr. to operate a gun shop out of his home at 773 Park St. in East Livermore.

Frost intends to sell firearms and shooting supplies in a 280-square-foot space in his basement, which can be entered through a basement door, not through the family home.

There will be no shooting and no target range, he said, as he will have equipment to set sights.

Richard M. Wilbur received approval, pending state licensing, to have an auto repair shop in his 14-by-25-foot garage behind his home at 102 Main St.

Wilbur told the board he will have a small shop, doing no heavy overhauls or tearing down of cars. He said he will only do quick jobs like tune-ups and brake repairs that people don’t want to do themselves, so there will be no accumulation of junk vehicles.

He will not do painting, except touch-ups on his own vehicle. Concerning other forms of waste, he said he has an outlet for waste fuel, will reuse most anti-freeze, and will not be changing tires. He said he has a Dumpster. He has adequate off-street parking in his driveway and will be putting up a sign at the end of the driveway.

Wilbur was advised by code enforcement officer Brenda Medcoff to keep his operation neat so he would not be added to her list of violators.

Yvette Jamison told the board she plans to operate a day-care for six children from her home at 13 Walnut St. “I only had one child, now I’ll have more,” she said. In the future she would like to add a room so she could care for up to 12 children, she said.

Her home has been inspected by the Department of Human Services, the fire marshal, and she has taken classes and is certified in first aid and CPR. She said she expects to receive her license next week, and her application was approved.
