FAIRFIELD – George M. Poland Sr., 55, of Fairfield, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, at his home.

Born in Farmington, July 28, 1948, the son of Leslie and Alberta (Denny) Poland, he was a graduate of Leavitt Institute in Turner in 1965.

On June 27, 1966, he entered the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged on June 27, 1969, with the rank of private.

He was employed by Maine Central Railroad from 1971 to 1986. Later in 1986, he was employed by Maine Track Maintenance, retiring in February of 2004.

Survivors include his children, George M. Poland and Marsha Morton, both of Rangeley; his mother, Alberta Poland, of Turner; three grandchildren, Milo Washer, of Norway, Ashlee Bickford, of Fairfield and McKenzie Morton, of Rangeley; a brother, Russell Poland and his wife, Janet, of Wilton; a sister, Christine Keene and her husband, David, of Turner; a nephew, Kevin Poland, of Lewiston; and two nieces, Kathey Heikkinen, of South Paris and Jessica Keene, of Turner.

He was predeceased by his father, Leslie Poland; and his grandparents, Milo and Marguerite Denny.
