LEWISTON – On July 18, M. Georgette Swett, 73, passed away following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

She was born on July 6, 1931, in Rumford, the oldest child of George and Aimee (Pache) Kirouac. Growing up in Rumford, she attended Rumford schools. After she completed her schooling, she worked at Carrol Cut-Rate and R.C. Jewelers.

On Feb. 8, 1954, she married John H. Swett Jr. Together they built a home in Mexico and a family to which they were both very devoted. Throughout her life, she enjoyed caring for her family and making their home a place where their friends were always welcome.

Along with her homemaking tasks, she also enjoyed home projects, sewing, knitting, gardening, genealogy, and her pets. As her children got older, she took the opportunity to work in the Mexico High School cafeteria.

She devoted herself to the care of her husband, John, when he became ill, and she was there for him throughout his last days. In her later years, she enjoyed being a grandmother and was proud of all her family.

She leaves behind four children, Cynthia Swett and her daughter, Rachel, of Rochester, N.H., Stephen Swett and his wife, Josephine, and their daughter and granddaughter, Jana and Savannah, of Lewiston, Paul Swett and his wife, Nancy, and their children, Lauren and Michael, of Old Town, and Jeanne Swett, of New Gloucester; her sister, Jeanne Lamson and husband, Robert, of Davenport, Fla.; her brother, Francis Kirouac and wife, Dianne, of Harmony; her sister-in-law, Lois Spence, of Freehold, N.J.; as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.

Sadly she was predeceased by John; and her brother, Paul Kirouac; and his son, Peter.
