Lewiston High School graduate and Lobster Bowl cheerleader Abi Church sang the Star Spangled Banner on Friday to loud cheers, especially from local fans that made the trip to Biddeford for the game.

Church was a member of Lewiston High School’s drama group Center Stage Ensemble and played several different roles throughout her four years at the school. She was also a member of the Concert Choir and select Jazz Ensemble, and sang the anthem at several sporting events during her senior year, including at the Class A State Hockey Championship.

The eagle almost landed

What could have been a disaster for David Williams of Sky Dive New England turned out to be just another stroll in the back yard…literally.

Williams, part of a four person diving team that carried the American, Canadian and Maine state flags into the stadium, was on course to land at the 50-yard line when a sudden gust of wind carried him and the Maine state flag away from the field and toward an adjoining neighborhood. Luckily he landed on his feet in the middle of an open back yard.

Defensive struggle

Only one other game in Lobster Bowl history has been decided by one point, a 17-16 West win in 1997, but that game had no scoring in the fourth quarter.

The East was hurt by 90 yards in penalties for the game.

Full moon

The cheerleader’s halftime routine was interrupted by a shirtless fan in jeans that broke onto the field from the end zone and started doing cartwheels across the field, finally ending up in front of the cheerleaders themselves.

After appearing to leave, he returned moments later and again cartwheeled to midfield.

This time, he paused long enough to bare his buttocks to the cheerleaders before attempting to escape on the other end of the field. In the end zone, security tackled him and restrained him until law enforcement could handcuff him.
