LEWISTON – Paul Lacombe’s term as president of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club came to a close at the June 24 meeting held at the Ramada Inn.
During his closing remarks, Lacombe highlighted the club’s involvement in community projects during the year, such as the WGME Channel 13 Bottle Drive for Mentoring, the Lewiston-Auburn Roadside and Park Cleanup Project, the Litchfield Hiram Shorey Memorial Library Project and the Business to Business Trade Show.
Various fund-raising activities brought in $14,700, which provided funding for grants or donations to the district governor’s Ecuador Project, the Rotary Centennial Clock in Auburn’s Festival Plaza, the Litchfield Library Centennial Project, scholarships to five high school seniors, a vocational scholarship, Classy Lady, Advocates for Children, the Liberty Festival, drug and alcohol prevention for young people, Opportunity Farm and the Good Shepherd Food-Bank.
Lacombe thanked each member who sponsored a new member during the past year and rewarded them with a “Rotary sponsor” pin. He also expressed appreciation to his executive committee and to each committee chairman for their year of service and presented each with a token gift of appreciation.
He said, “This year’s Rotary International theme was Lend a Hand’ which, I am certain you will all agree, we have certainly done here in our communities, as well as in Ecuador and the Philippines.”
