RUMFORD – Anne Geller, director of Foothills Arts Center based in Farmington, is giving musicians, songwriters and others from the River Valley a chance to get together.
The music written will become a part of the Continental Harmony Community Chorus’s performances set for Rumford, Jay and Strong in November.
Martin Swinger, a folk singer and songwriter from Augusta, will lead workshops from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 25 and Sept. 8 at Scrappers Domaine.
Geller said songs to be written may be based on the area’s ethnic heritage, anecdotes, significant people from the area’s past or legends unique to the River Valley.
Fees for the workshops are $10 for one, or $15 for both; $20 for a family to attend one workshop or $30 for both.
Because the goal of the songwriting workshop is to get as many people as possible together to participate, the fee schedule can be reduced for those who can’t afford to pay the entire amount, Geller said.
The Continental Harmony Community Chorus is made up of youth and adults from throughout the Franklin County and River Valley areas. The first performance was presented in 2000, and each year new people join in the annual performance.
Those who wish to sing during the Nov. 19-21 performances may join the chorus without attending a songwriting workshop. Weekly rehearsals will be scheduled Thursday evenings beginning near the end of September.
Those wishing more information on either the songwriting workshop or on chorus participation may phone Geller at 778-0448.
