LEWISTON – Albert B. Fontaine, 80, of Lewiston died Monday morning, Aug. 23, at Russell Park Rehabilitation and Living Center.

He was born in Lewiston on May 14, 1924, the son of Camille and Maria (Gagnon) Fontaine and was educated in Lewiston schools. He was U.S. Army Sergeant veteran having served during World War II.

Following the war, he attended Magnete Music School in the late 1940’s and later owned and operated the Harry Starbird School of Music.

He worked for many years at Pioneer Plastics until his retirement in 1987.

He was a well-known musician having played the accordion in the Bob Bedard Band. He and Bob entertained many at various functions and receptions including the Poland Spring Inn.

In his later years, while working part-time at Marshwood Nursing Home, he enjoyed using his music to entertain the residents.

He was a member of Horizon 55, Covenant 50, and the Lewiston Senior Citizens.

He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and those who loved his music.

He is survived by his daughter, Joline Labbe and her husband, Paul, of Hawaii; two grandsons, Jason and Brian Labbe, both of Hawaii; two sisters, Jeannette Thibodeau and Carmen Giasson, both of Auburn; his son-in-law, Emile Carreau, of Waterville; his former wife and friend, Clairette Fontaine, of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Nina Carreau in 2003, two brothers, Gerald and Lionel, and two sisters, Lorette Laliberte and Ella Morin.
