CANTON – Selectmen on Wednesday night awarded the contract for Canton’s new fire station to Blanchette Builders for $130,000.
The money comes from a $250,000 Public Facilities Grant received a few months ago. The 80-by-68-foot building on Route 108 will have three truck bays, a training room, meeting room, kitchen and several offices. If the cement work can be done this fall, a spring completion date is anticipated.
In other matters, a public auction of the Edward Libby property will be held at 10 a.m. Nov. 10 at the Oxford County Register of Deeds office in Paris. Libby told selectmen he would be in before then to pay the $2,500 in fines plus sale costs, but the sale remains scheduled The fines had been levied over months for failure to clean up the junkyard.
There will be a special public hearing at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 followed by a special town meeting to see if the town will accept a $10,000 Community Development Block Grant.
Mary Dube has resigned from the school board for personal reasons.
