OXFORD – The Thompson Lake Environmental Association will sponsor its third annual public tour of erosion control projects completed by the association’s Youth Conservation Corps on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Members of the corps, a group of young workers partly supported by the association and partly by the towns of Otisfield, Oxford, Casco and Poland, spent the summer working on a variety of remedial projects in the Thompson Lake watershed.

Many of the projects took place on private property with the property owner paying for necessary materials. The work is intended to alleviate the problem of nonpoint source pollution, usually caused by excessive water runoff into the lake.

The association invites the public as well as interested town officials to attend the session to see first-hand what the corps has accomplished.

Because of limited parking and access to some of the sites, transportation will be provided.

The tour will cover sites in all four towns and will also include road projects in Otisfield and Oxford partly funded by a Watershed Management Grant. Jeff Hackett, corps coordinator for the past three years, will lead the tour.

The group will assemble at the association office at 345 King St., Oxford, at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and doughnuts. It is expected to last from 9 a.m. to noon.
