LEWISTON – Bertha R. Legare Mathieu, 78, of 391 Webster St., died Friday, Oct. 15, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Lewiston, June 30, 1926, a daughter of Elzear and Pamela Bonsaint Pelletier. A lifelong resident of Lewiston, she lead a happy life.

She was a member of Holy Cross Parish, and worked for 42 years at Bates Mfg. Co., Bates & Hill Division. She will always be remembered for her love of family and for cooking meals for them. She enjoyed gardening and country and western music.

She was predeceased by her first husband of 45 years, Paul Legare, in November of 1996. Of this loving union, she was blessed with three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Rachel Legare, of Auburn, Richard and Denise Legare, of Lewiston, and Gerard and Lynda Legare, of Lewiston; also her loving husband, Bertrand D. Mathieu, of Lewiston, whom she married Aug. 29, 1998; and her extended family Donna Morin, of Greene, and Pat White and her husband, Mike, of Eastampton, N.J.; her grandchildren, Nick, Jared, Isaac, Taylor, Brittany, Jessica and Melissa Legare. Kristen and Derek Morin, Jason White and Heather Morin; her great-grandchildren, Jaden and Anna Legare, and Brandon and Meadow Major; one sister, Rita Lavoie and her husband, Ivan, of Bristol, Conn.; one brother, Roland Pelletier and his wife, Marcella, of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.
